Accomplishments (continued)

  • Rep. Bullock sponsored several service and community outreach events to raise awareness and bring residents together.
    • To make sure all our young people are ready on their first day of school, Rep. Bullock distributed book bags and supplies at various back to school events.
    • During National Preparedness Month in September, Rep. Bullock showed her appreciation for all our emergency responders by visiting with them at the fire houses and ladder companies of the District.
    • Following her introduction of a resolution recognizing “Meet the Blind Month” and “White Cane Safety Day” in Pennsylvania, Rep. Bullock brought Wills Eye Hospital to James G. Blaine Elementary school to conduct eye exams. Students were screened and if necessary, given two pairs of eyeglasses (one for school, and one for home). Students with more serious issues were referred to experts for a follow up.
    • Rep. Bullock held her first commercial corridor clean up on Ridge Avenue. In addition, she and her staff joined our neighbors in their efforts to keep their communities clean, green, and safe.
    • Rep. Bullock’s office collected over 1,000 diapers and 2,000 wipes during National Diaper Drive Week. The diapers and wipers were distributed to the families at the Baring House Crisis Nursery in West Philadelphia.
    • Rep. Bullock joined Senator Vincent Hughes and other colleagues at a Get Out the Vote Rally.
    • Rep. Bullock introduced a resolution to recognize November 1, 2015 as National Family Literacy Day in Pennsylvania, and collected hundreds of children and adult books which were redistributed to child care centers, nonprofits, and families in the community. Rep. Bullock also maintains a small library at the District Office for constituents.
    • During the holidays, Rep. Bullock supported existing turkey giveaways and Thanksgiving dinners.
    • Rep. Bullock supported two holiday parties for families in need, one for the children at Johnson Homes sponsored by the 32nd Democratic Ward, and the other with the women and their families at Riverside Correctional Facility sponsored by nonprofit, Ardella’s House.
    • Recognizing the importance of mentoring in the lives of young people, Rep. Bullock introduced a resolution to recognize January 2016 as “National Big Brother Big Sisters” and “National Mentoring Month” in Pennsylvania.
    • Rep. Bullock introduced a resolution to designate the week of January 17-23, 2016 as “Healthy Weight Week” in Pennsylvania and will be hosting a health fair and other activities to promote healthy living habits in the community.
